STORRS, Conn. - Â The UConn men's hockey team fell to no.7 Maine Friday evening by a final of 5-3. Huskies held a 3-1 lead midway through the third period, before the black bears stormed back to take the 5-3 victory.
UConn jumped the black bears early, as junior Chase Bradley opened the scoring 26 seconds into the start of the game. UConn followed up that goal with a tip in goal by sophomore Tristen Fraser to take the 2-0 lead. The Huskies had two more chances in the first period to extend their lead, but a goal scored by senior Hudson Schandor was disallowed after referees ruled goaltender interference, and sophomore Matthew Wood rang the post on a breakaway. UConn kept the black bears off the scoreboard and entered the period break with the two-goal lead.
After a scoreless second period, Maine came out firing in the third period. The Black Bears scored three minutes into the start of the period to cut the UConn lead to one. The Huskies answered with a goal of their own courtesy of Hudson Schandor to give them the two-goal lead once again. Later in the period, while on the power play, UConn looked to put the game away, however a shorthanded goal by the Black Bears cut the UConn lead to one and from there they never looked back. Bradley Nadeau and Josh Nadeau found the back of the net to give Maine the 4-3 lead late in the period, and then the Black Bears sealed the game with a goal as senior Ethan Haider was skating off the ice in favor of the extra attacker.
UConn will be back in action tomorrow at 3pm to wrap up the series against Maine. Puck drop is scheduled for 3pm and can be streamed live on ESPN+. Â
