STORRS, Conn. - On Saturday, January 13 in a 5-2 home victory against the Boston University Terriers, head coach Chris MacKenzie was honored after the game for breaking the all-time wins record in program history with 164 wins; passing the previous record of 163 set by Heather Linstad in 2013 against Princeton in a 5-1 triumph at home.Â
In that 2012-13 season, the Huskies went 3-29-3 overall and 1-19-1 in the WHEA (Women's Hockey East Association). Following that season, MacKenzie helped lead the Huskies to six more wins in the 2013-14 season. Â
MacKenzie's overall record is 166-153-45. MacKenzie's best season came in the 2021-22 season, when the Huskies finished with 24 wins. That season marked the most wins ever in program history. The Huskies were led by three forwards in Morgan Wabick, Natalie Snodgrass, and Viki Harkness combining for 91 points, including 36 goals scored and 55 assists. Â
Goaltender Samantha Carpentier-Yelle played in 24 games starting in 22 and put up a record of 12-6-3. Carpentier-Yelle also collected 458 saves with a .920 save percentage and only allowing 40 goals on a 1.91 goals-against average. Not too far behind in the stat sheet that season was goaltender Megan Warrener. Warrener finished off the season with a 12-3-1 record while playing in 27 games and starting in 15. While in goal, Warrener allowed just 21 goals with a 1.28 goals-against average including 357 saves at a .944 save percentage. Â
Later that season, the Huskies made it to the Hockey East Championships after defeats against Boston University in the quarterfinals and Vermont in the semifinals. However, UConn fell short 3-1 just missing their chances of qualifying for the NCAA tournament.Â
This season coach MacKenzie has gotten the Huskies in good shape to carry out another strong season as they have faced tough opponents in conference play in No. 13 ranked Boston College. After dropping those two games and tying the third, the Huskies are now 13-4-2 overall including a close battle against No. 2 ranked Minnesota. Â
MacKenzie and the Huskies now look ahead to the second half of the season with more Hockey East matchups on Friday, Jan. 19 and Sunday, Jan. 21 against Maine and New Hampshire. The first game is at home at Toscano Family Ice Forum and the second game is away in Durham, N.H. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET on Friday and noon on Saturday with both games being streamed live on ESPN+. Â
