ORLANDO, Fla. – The UConn softball team defeated the UCF Knights, 3-2 on Saturday night at the UCF Softball Complex.

Senior pitcher Hallie Siems led the way for the Huskies in the circle going the distance tossing her 18^thcomplete game of her career. She kept the potent Knights lineup off balance all night, only surrendering four hits, with one earned run, and adding seven strikeouts.

Lexi Hastings made program history in the top of the first inning stealing the 77^th stolen base of her career breaking the all-time program record, set by Aziah James a year ago. The junior surpassed the mark in just her 110^th career game for the Huskies.

UConn got off to a quick start scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Jana Sanden once again opened the scoring for the Huskies, singling to center field to score Hastings and Grace Jenkins.

UCF trimmed into the Huskies lead with a solo home run in the second inning, making it 2-1 Huskies.

UConn responded right away in the third inning adding a run back to the lead. Grace Jenkins hit her second double of the season to left center, scoring Hastings from second base.

Siems continued to deal for the Huskies in the middle innings, tossing four straight shutout innings to preserve UConn's lead.

UCF got a run back in the bottom of the seventh, but the Huskies were able to hang on late earning their second win on the young season.

Up Next:

UConn will close out the Black and Gold Classic tomorrow morning at 9:30am against the Seattle Redhawks.
