WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The UConn men's golf team begins the spring portion of its schedule with BIG EAST Match Play, set for Monday and Tuesday at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach. Fla.
The event, in its third year, will feature teams from Butler, Creighton, Seton Hall, St. John's, Villanova and DePaul joining the Huskies. The event will utilize the match play format, which is not the norm during the regular season, but comes in to play during postseason golf. UConn will be matched up against Butler in the first round of action getting underway on Monday. The Huskies will then face either Creighton or St. John's in the next round.
The Huskies have won the event the previous two seasons, posting a 14-5-2 record to best Butler, DePaul and St. John's in 2023 and an 11-3-4 mark to win in 2022 over Butler, Creighton and Seton Hall.
Senior Tommy Dallahan (Simsbury, Conn.) was the team's leading scorer during the fall season, (73.1 per round), notching a pair of top-20 finishes including a fifth place showing at The Carolina Cup. Freshman Bradley Sawka (Ellington, Conn.) got off to a solid start to his collegiate career, posting a 73.4 per round average over three events and had his top-finish come in the Huskies own tournament in 12th place. He shot par or better in five of his nine rounds played and his three round low of 210 (69-71-70) in the Ka'anapali Classic was the second lowest tournament total on the team during the fall.
Junior Ryan Dennehy (Princeton, Mass.) and sophomore Connor Goode (Glastonbury, Conn.) both finished the fall with a 73.8 per round average over the four events. Goode was the individual champion at the UConn Invitational where Dennehy had his best showing as well with an eighth-place finish.
After this week's BIG EAST match-play event, the Huskies return to tournament play at the Palmas Del Mar Intercollegiate in Humacao, Puerto Rico on February 11-13. UConn will compete in five tournaments in the lead up to the 2024 BIG EAST Championship on April 27-29.
