Softball Extends Winning Streak to Eleven Straight

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team defeated the Yale Bulldogs, 9-5 on Wednesday afternoon at Burrill Family Field.
Hope Jenkins earned her third start of the season for the Huskies. She went 1.1 innings giving up two hits for two runs adding one strikeout.
Rosie Garcia put the Huskies in front with a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning, hitting her fourth homer of the year.
Yale took a 2-1 lead in the second inning off a two run home run.
Meghan O'Neil came on in relief for Jenkins in the second inning. She tossed 4.2 innings, picking up her third win of the season, only giving up two hits and one run with three strikeouts.
UConn regained the lead in the third inning, capitalizing off a pair of Yale errors. Lexi Hastings came around to score as Yale's catcher had a throwing error trying to catch Grace Jenkins stealing second base, allowing Hastings to score from third base. UConn scored another run off a throwing error by Yale's third basemen, scoring Grace Jenkins from second base, making it 3-2 Huskies.
Yale tied the game in the sixth inning off a solo home run to center field.
UConn's offense exploded in the bottom half of the sixth inning scoring six runs on three hits to break the game open, 9-3. Haley Coupal got it started with a double to left center field, scoring Lauren Benson from second base. The Huskies would load the bases for the top of the order. Hastings moved everyone up a base with a single to right field, scoring Coupal from third base. Grace Jenkins delivered the knockout punch with a grand slam, the second of her career and her third homer of the season.
Sydnee Koosh came on to close out the win, making her seventh appearance in the circle for the Huskies.
