Softball pushes win streak to thirteen straight

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The UConn softball team won their second BIG EAST series in a row on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Butler Bulldogs, 10-8, winning their thirteenth straight game.
Payton Kinney earned her eighth start of the season in the circle for the Huskies. She went 6.0 innings giving up seven runs on nine hits with six strikeouts.
UConn jumped out in front in the first inning scoring three runs on three hits. Jana Sanden got it started, knocking in her 18th run of the season with a single to center field, scoring Lexi Hastings from second base. Hope Jenkins followed Sanden with her 19th run batted in of the season on a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Grace Jenkins from third base. Haley Coupal capped off the inning with a single to left center field, scoring Sanden from third base, and knocking in her 9th run of the year.
Meghan O'Neil came in for one inning in the third, giving up one run and one hit with a strikeout.
Butler took the lead in the third inning, scoring five runs, giving the Bulldogs a 5-3 lead.
UConn responded in a big way in the fourth inning scoring six runs on four hits, sending ten batters to the plate. The Huskies loaded the bases playing small ball on a pair of bunt singles. Grace Jenkins worked a walk moving everyone up a base and scoring Giuliana Abruscato. Rosie Garcia reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Kaitlyn Kibling and moving everyone up a base. Sanden followed Garcia with a single to left field, scoring Hastings. Hope Jenkins scored two more runs with a single, scoring Grace Jenkins and Garcia. Savannah Ring completed the six run inning, reaching on an error, scoring Sanden, and giving the Huskies a 9-5 lead.
Butler trimmed into the Huskies lead in the fifth inning, scoring three runs, making it 9-8.
Garcia gave the Huskies some breathing room in the sixth inning, homering in her third straight game, making it 10-8. Garcia now has a team high seven home runs on the year.
