STORRS, Conn.- The UConn baseball team (9-14) lost 7-4 to Boston College (12-11) on Wednesday afternoon at Elliot Ballpark.

The Huskies continue to struggle with runners in scoring position, going 2-14 on Wednesday. The Eagles weren't much better going 2-11 but the big one was a grand slam hit by Cameron Leary in the top of the fouirth, giving Boston College a 5-2 lead.

UConn took a brief lead in the second inning after Matt Garbowski and Bryan Padilla registered RBI singles to take a 2-1 advantage.

The Huskies trimmed the deficit to 5-4 in the fifth with Korey Morton hitting a ground balll to the left side of the infield, third baseman Patrick Roche made a diving stop with the bases loaded and was able to get the first out of the inning at second base.

After a pitching change, Maddix Dalena made it a one-run game with a sacrifice fly to right field. The UConn first baseman had a good day at the plate with a pair of doubles on the afternoon.

The UConn defense kept the Huskies in the game, turning inning-ending double plays in the first inning (4-3) and in the seventh inning (5-4-3).

In the eighth inning, Dalena led off the frame with a double and advanced to third on a Luke Broadhurst ground out to second. With the tying run 90-feet away, Matt Garbowski came up with the infield in and hit a hard ground ball to second that coudln't get the run in. Jake Studley followed with a lazy pop up to second base to end the threat.

Boston College then loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth, Parker Landwehr hit a ground ball to shortstop Paul Tammaro that he backhanded and fired over to first, Dalena stretched a bit too early and had the potential final out of the inning pop out of his glove and allow two insurance runs to score and make it 7-4 Eagles.

Next up, the Huskies face off against Northeastern on Wednesday at 3:05 p.m. at Elliot Ballpark.
