STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team (14-16) scored its most runs in a game this season with a 20-2 victory against Maine in seven innings on Wednesday afternoon at Elliot Ballpark.
Jake Marquez got the Black Bears on the board first with a two-run home run in the top of the second inning.
UConn followed with 20 unanswered runs including a season-high nine runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Huskies hit three home runs and sent 15 batters to the plate. Maddix Dalena (3-Run), Bryan Padilla (2-Run) and Luke Broadhurst (2-Run) all homered in the frame.
For Broadhurst, it was his third home run in the last 24 hours and was his sixth home run of the season. Teammate Jake Studley is tied with Broadhurst for the team lead after hitting a solo home run in the bottom of the third that made it 10-2 lead.Â
10 Huskies registered a hit on Wednesday with T.C. Simmons coming off the bench and going 2-2 with a two-run triple and a double.Â
Matt Malcom registered three hits and drove in a season-high three runs.Â
On the mound, the Huskies were able to throw seven pitchers and combined to allow just two runs on five hits.
Jack Sullivan and Hector Alejandro both logged scoreless innings of work out of the UConn pen.
Freshman Tommy Turner recorded his first outs of his UConn career including his first career strikeout in 0.2 innings.
LHP Kieran Finnegan made his UConn debut on Wednesday and retired the only batter that he faced.Â
Next up, the Huskies face off against St. Johns in a BIG EAST series at Elliot Ballpark beginning on Friday.Â
