MASON, Ohio - The UConn baseball team (32-23) lost a pair of extra-inning heartbreakers to Xavier, 3-2 (11 innings), and Georgetown, 10-9 (10 innings) on Thursday afternoon to knock the Huskies out of the BIG EAST Championship.

The first game was a resumption of a suspended game from Wednesday night that was paused in the top of the sixth inning due to weather.

Xavier took the lead 2-0 but freshman Tyler Minick hit a two-run homer to tie it at 2-2 before the suspension.

The teams returned to the field today for a 1 p.m. first pitch and the game remained tied at 2-2 heading to the bottom of the ninth.

Luke Broadhurst led off the frame with a triple off the wall in right to put the winning run at third. However, a pop up and pair of strikeouts for the Musketeers sent the game to extra innings.

In the top of the 11th, Jared Cushing hit a solo shot to left to break the 2-2 tie.

UConn rallied with runners at first and second and two away but a strikeout ended the ballgame.

The Huskies then flipped around and faced the Georgetown Hoyas in an elimination game.

UConn took an early 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI double from Korey Morton.

After going back and forth through the middle innings, freshman Tyler MInick hit a grand slam, his second of the year, to flip the score and give UConn a 7-5 lead in the fifth.

The Hoyas responded with two runs in the sixth and a run in the seventh to regain the lead, 8-7.

With runners at second and third and two outs in the bottom of the eighth, senior Bryan Padilla delivered a two-run triple to give the Huskies the lead back.

In the ninth, Brady Afthim recorded a pair of outs and with a runner at second and two down, Marco Castillo tied the game with an RBI single.

The Hoyas eventually took the lead in the 10th with a sacrifice fly and evenutally held on to eliminate the Huskies.

UConn will await the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, May 27 at 12 p.m. on ESPN2 to see if the BIG EAST regular season champions will reach its sixth-straight NCAA Tournament.
