Okafor Scores Twice, WSOC Ties Marquette

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team (7-3-3, 3-1-2 BIG EAST) battled to a 2-2 tie against Marquette (6-3-4, 2-0-3 BIG EAST) on Saturday night at Morrone Stadium.
The Huskies jumped out to a quick lead with Se-Hanna Mars finding Chioma Okafor inside the box. The senior, after just missing a goal moments prior, buried home her chance for her fifth goal of the season.Â
UConn dominated the stat sheet in the first half with a 10-2 edge in shots, but a penalty kick given to Marquette in the 26th minute led to an equalizer for the Golden Eagles.Â
After the halftime break, it was the visiting Eagles to take their first lead of the night with a goal in the 59th minute. It is only the third game this year that the Huskies have allowed multiple goals.Â
The Huskies answered in the 74th minute with Se-Hanna Mars creating an opportunity with her shot that was deflected by the Marquette keeper and off the cross bar. The ball richotted to a streaking Okafor and the senior captain tallied her seventh career game with multiple goals. It is her first multi-goal game of 2025.Â
The Huskies continued to press forward to regain the lead but the match ended with each team garnering a point in the BIG EAST standings.
Next up, UConn travels to Indianapolis to face the Butler Bulldogs on Wednesday, October 15 at 7 p.m.
