WSOC Ready For Two Critical Matches Including Senior Night

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team (7-3-3, 3-1-2 BIG EAST) embarks on a pair of key BIG EAST matches this week with a road test at Butler (4-3-5, 4-2-2 BIG EAST) on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. Then return home for Senior Night against Villanova (8-5, 3-2 BIG EAST) on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 7 PM. Both games can be seen on ESPN+.
The Huskies currently sit in third place in the BIG EAST standings with 11 points with four matches remaining for UConn. The top four teams in the BIG EAST standings earn spots to the four-team BIG EAST Championship in early November.Â
UConn is coming off a 2-2 tie against Marquette that saw Chioma Okafor secure a brace with the help of redshirt freshman Se-Hanna Mars creating both scoring opportunities.Â
Okafor leads the Huskies with six goals while Taylor Jenkins and Farrah Stephens-Martin each have a pair.Â
The Bulldogs have lost each of their last two matches but are 3-0-2 this season at Bud and Jackie Sellick Bowl. Talia Sommer leads the team with five goals and six assists.Â
On Saturday, the Huskies will honor four seniors with Chioma Okafor, Abbey Merchant, Lina Dantes and Kaitlyn Richins being honored prior to the match.Â
UConn then faces off against Villanova who have won their last two matches by identical, 1-0, scorelines. Avrie Nelson leads the Wildcats with four goals scored this season.Â
Saturday's match will be the last regular season match at Morrone Stadium before the Huskies hit the road for the last two matches of the regular campaign.
