STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team (7-3-2, 3-1-1 BIG EAST) secured a 1-0 win against Creighton (4-7-2, 1-3-1 BIG EAST) on Saturday evening at Morrone Stadium.
The Huskies controlled the game after a 0-0 first half with the home side leading 8-3 in shots and did not allow a set piece opportunity for the Bluejays.Â
UConn thought they took a lead in the 65th minute on a Lina Dantes goal but after a video review the goal was disallowed.Â
In the 78th minute, the Huskies finally broke through on a laser free kick from sixth-year senior Anna Carson. The Enfield, Conn. native rocketed her free kick attempt over the keeper and into the back of the net. It is the first goal of the year for the UConn center back.Â
Se-Hanna Mars and Chioma Okafor led the Huskies with three shots a piece.Â
The Huskies captured their seventh shutout of the season with goalkeeper Ava Yamas making five saves on the night.
Next up, UConn stays home to face Marquette next Saturday, Oct. 11 at 6:30 p.m.Â
