Huskies Close Regular Season Against Villanova and Georgetown

STORRS, Conn.— UConn volleyball (18-8, 7-7 BIG EAST) concludes the regular season on the road this weekend. The Huskies will face Villanova on Friday at 6:00 pm in Philadelphia before a matchup with Georgetown on Saturday at 7:00 pm in the nation's capital.
Scouting the Huskies
UConn closed out its home slate last weekend. The Huskies defeated Butler in four sets and fell to Xavier in a close four-set match. Emma Werkmeister led the way for the Huskies on the weekend, averaging 4.63 kills per set, highlighted by a match-high 23 kills against Xavier. Werkmeister broke the BIG EAST single-season record for aces on Saturday, firing in her 37th ace in conference play to continue her service line domination. The senior outside hitter leads the nation with 64 total aces. Doga Kutlu continued her strong season, setting the offense. Kutlu averaged 9.50 assists per set on the weekend and eclipsed the 1000 dig mark for her UConn career. With 15 more assists this weekend, Kutlu will join the 3000 assist club, joining only five other Huskies ever to accomplish this milestone. Eli Adams set a new career high with eight blocks against Butler. McKenna Brand anchored the UConn defense with 3.75 digs per set. Brand leads the Huskies with 349 digs on the season. Jess Perry recorded a season-best 11 kills against Butler.
Opposition Research
UConn will face Villanova on Friday night. The Wildcats are third in the BIG EAST behind Creighton and Xavier, sporting a 18-7 record, with a 9-5 mark in conference play. Villanova split its matches last weekend, sweeping Georgetown before falling to Creighton in four sets. Abby Harrell led Villanova with 4.57 kills per set on the weekend, notching a double-double in the win over the Hoyas (16 kills, 11 digs). Harrell leads the Wildcats in kills (370), aces (39) and digs (279). The duo of Alyssa Nelson (548) and Ava Harris (506) contributes to Villanova's conference-leading 12.83 assists per set. Villanova took down UConn in Storrs on October 18th in four sets.
The Huskies face Georgetown (13-14, 6-8 BIG EAST) to close the regular season. The Hoyas dropped both matches last weekend, falling to Villanova and Creighton in straight sets. Samantha Soderlund (250 kills) and Dionna Mitchell (249 kills) ignite the Georgetown offense. Juleigh Urbina facilitates the Hoya attack, averaging 6.48 assists per set. Jade Smith (2.20 digs per set) and Taylor Mercado (2.19 digs per set) anchor the Georgetown defense. Kamryn Lee-Caracci leads the Hoyas with 74 blocks on the season. UConn swept Georgetown in straight sets on October 17th in Storrs.
