BOYDS, Md. - The No. 3 seed UConn men's soccer team (11-3-4) will play the No. 1 seed Georgetown Hoyas for the BIG EAST Championship on Sunday, November 16. Kickoff is set for 12:00pm at the Maryland SoccerPlex and will be available to stream on ESPN+. TICKETS
UConn is making their first appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament Final since 2011 and are seeking their first conference tournament title since 2007. The Huskies are 7-6 all-time in BIG EAST Championship matches.
The Huskies beat the No. 2 seed Akron, 2-1 on Thursday to advance to the Final. UConn came back from 1-0 down, scoring two goals in the final 31 minutes. The Huskies leading goal scorer Austin Brummett netted the equalizer, giving him eight tallies this season, and goals in two straight matches. True freshman Preston Alessio scored the game-winner, the first of his career and third goal this season.
A Look at Georgetown
Georgetown (11-3-4) defeated the No. 4 seed Providence, 2-1 to secure their ninth straight appearance in the BIG EAST Championship game. The Hoyas went unbeaten in BIG EAST play (6-0-2), en route to their fourth consecutive regular season title. Georgetown is coached by Brian Wiese in his 20th season. Wiese and his staff earned BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year honors. The Hoyas garnered six All-BIG EAST selections, highlighted by the Midfielder of the Year in Zach Zengue. He leads the conference in goals (13), and points (37).
Series History
Georgetown defeated the Huskies, 4-1 in their regular season meeting, despite UConn scoring the first goal in the match. The Hoyas have won the last eight meetings between the two programs dating back to the 2019 season. In the BIG EAST Tournament UConn has a 2-3 record against Georgetown. The last meeting in the postseason between the two sides was back in 2023, the Hoyas were victorious, 2-0. The two programs have met in the championship game just one time (1999), the Huskies came out on top, 2-0.
