The first period began with Holy Cross gaining an early advantage in puck possession, winning the opening faceoff. UConn had several opportunities to score but was consistently denied by Holy Cross goaltender Brooke Loranger, who made multiple saves throughout the period. Despite being on the power play after a tripping penalty, Holy Cross took advantage of a one-on-one breakaway on UConn's net, resulting in a short-handed goal, giving Holy Cross a 1-0 lead. The period concluded with UConn unable to find the back of the net, leaving the score 1-0 in favor of the Crusaders. Shots favored the Huskies in the first period, 9-5.
Holy Cross began the second period by winning the opening faceoff and maintaining initial control. UConn established steady pressure in their offensive zone, generating 15 shots on goal in the period. Holy Cross committed two penalties with seven minutes remaining in the period, allowing UConn a key 5 on 3 power play opportunity. Junior forward Livvy Dewar took advantage, scoring the equalizer with time expiring on the power play set up by a great pass in front of goal by Julia Pellerin, leveling the score at 1-1. Both teams continued to fight for control, but no additional goals were scored before the second period ended.
UConn secured a decisive victory backed by a strong third period performance. Senior forward Megan Woodworth scored her fourth goal of the season with 12 minutes remaining in the period, putting UConn up 2-1. Just 23 seconds later, senior forward Christina Walker scored what would become the game-winning goal, doubling the Huskies lead to 3-1 with her first goal of the season.
Holy Cross did not go quietly, responding with a power-play goal with under eight minutes remaining in the third period, narrowing the UConn lead to 3-2. Despite pulling their goalie for an extra skater in the final minutes, UConn managed to keep Holy Cross off the board, giving the Huskies their third straight win.
