Odamtten Sets New School Record in 60m Dash at Harvard Classic

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- UConn track and field began the 2025-26 indoor season on Saturday at the Harvard Classic in Cambridge, Massachusetts. As a team, the Huskies notched seven new all-time top 10 finishes and a new program record.
"Great day at the season opener. Lot of new impact players have joined the program as freshmen or transfers," said Director of Track and Field Beth Alford-Sullivan. "Our squads look to be in a good spot entering 2026, and compete for BIG EAST titles and beyond. Great shout-out to Medwin Odammten, a new transfer from Tennessee. He looks to be in great form, representing all of us at a high level. Excited for this group that has worked hard all fall. We've had some significant breakthroughs, and we're excited to reconvene in January."
Track Events:
Odammten stole the show in his UConn debut, breaking the school record in the 60m dash with a blazing fast time of 6.63. Damon Simpson set a new personal best in the event with a time of 6.74, the third-fastest time in program history. Christian Menounos finished second in his first collegiate action with a time of 8:28.94 in the 3000m.In his UConn debut, Peyton Butler took third in the 400m with a time of 50.54. Mason Brosious and Kyle Jeffers made their Husky debuts in the 1000m, finishing second and third with respective times of 2:32.15 and 2:33.30.
UConn claimed the top three spots in the women's 500m. Emerson Flaker took the top spot with a time of 1:14.13. Anna Connors crossed the line in 1:14.64 for second and Jessica Starr claimed third at 1:15.29. Mekhi Stone took third in the men's 500m with a time of 1:04.51. OJ Singletary took fourth at 1:04.59. Gabe Cuffey crossed the line at 1:05.09 in fifth and Del Lindsay claimed sixth at 1:05.47.
Maia Rich and Maresa Hense all qualified for the women's 60m hurdle finals. Taylor's mark of 8.45 in the qualifiers tied the fifth-fastest mark in program history, ultimately winning the final at 8.46. Hense cracked the all-time top 10, finishing fourth in the final at 8.60, the ninth-best performance in program history. Â Josh Mooney, Wyatt Graiver, and William Watson all qualified for the men's 60m hurdle final. Mooney took the final with a time of 7.93, the sixth-best mark in program history. Graiver finished third at 8.16.
Mia Dansby qualified for the women's 60m final with a time of 7.73. Caroline Rice and Alyssa Elliot finished first and second in the women's 800m, with times of 2:15.44 and 2:15.46. The team of Starr, Flaker, Hense, and Anna Connors won the women's 4x440y with a time of 3:45.59. The squad of Del Lindsay, Stone, Butler, and Singletary took second on the men's side at 3:20.85.
Field Events:
Kaylee Meyer made her collegiate debut with the top high jump performance of the day at 1.68m. Enaji Muhammad kicked off his sophomore season with a jump of 2.08m, the high mark of the day. Dar Jankovic cleared 2.05m for second place on the day.
Brooklyn Taylor finished second in the long jump in her collegiate debut, with a jump of 5.64m. Jaylnn Smith claimed fifth in her first appearance as a Husky at 5.50m. Matilda Brockley took third in the women's triple jump at 11.64m in her collegiate debut. Emi Erekosima won the triple jump in his UConn debut at 15.00m.
Rachel Mason took second in the pole vault at 3.60m. Wyatt Martin won the men's pole vault at 4.60m. Max Ringwall and Diarmuid O'Connor tied for fifth at 4.45m. Marshall Potter and Lucas DeCrescenzo made their collegiate debuts in the men's weight throw, finishing second and fourh with throws of 17.58m and 16.35m, respectively.
Ella Karp won the women's shot put at 13.96m, debuting with the ninth-best mark in program history. Brook-lynn Roberts finished fifth at 12.54m in her collegiate debut. Potter won the shot put at 17.48, the ninth-best mark in program history.
