Track and Field to Compete in Beantown Challenge

STORRS, Conn. – UConn track and field returns to action after winter break, returning to Harvard to compete in the Beantown Challenge on Saturday, January 17th.
In the Harvard Classic season opener, seven Huskies set new all-time top 10 finishes, led by Medwin Odamtten's school record in the 60m dash. Odammten pulled away from the field with a time of 6.63. Damon Simpson set a new-personal best in the event with a time of 6.74, the third-fastest mark in UConn history.
Marshall Potter was named BIG EAST Men's Field Athlete of the Week on December 17th. In his collegiate debut, Potter won the shot put competition at 17.48m and finished second in the weight throw at 17.58m.
UConn's all-Americans shined in their season debuts as well. Josh Mooney won the 60m hurdles competition with a time of 7.93m, the sixth-fastest time in UConn program history. Maresa Hense finished fourth in the hurdles with a time of 8.60, the ninth-fastest time in program history.
Brooklyn Taylor had a strong debut as well, finishing the 60m hurdle qualifier in 8.45, tying the fifth-fastest mark in program history. Taylor carried over this momentum into the final, winning the competition with a time of 8.46. Kaylee Meyer and Ella Karp continued the theme of strong Husky debuts. Meyer won the high jump competition at 1.68m and Karp won the shot put at 13.96m, the ninth-best mark in program history.
