No. 5 UConn Heads to Maine this Weekend

STORRS, Conn. – No. 5 UConn women's hockey (15-3-2) heads up north this weekend for a two-game series against the Maine Black Bears. The series is scheduled to begin on Friday, January 9 at 6:00pm. Game two is set for Saturday, January 10 at 4:00pm. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
UConn is coming off a series sweep of Providence last weekend, improving to 8-1-1 in Hockey East play this season. The Huskies are unbeaten in their last eight games, and have outscored opponents, 30-12 during that stretch. UConn currently sits in second place in the Hockey East standings on 24 points with 14 conference games remaining in the regular season. FULL STANDINGS
UConn goaltender Tia Chan has been sensational in net this season for the Huskies. Chan is the nation's leader in save percentage (.953), posting three shutouts this year. She owns 1.516 goals against average, ranking 5th nationally. Chan earned her 4th Hockey East Goaltender of the Week award after saving 62 of 63 shots against Providence. Junior defender Maya Serdachny has anchored the Huskies d-core this season, leading the defenders in points this season with 13. Serdachny was named the Hockey East Defender of the Month for December after posting three assists and five shots in two games against Boston University.
A Look at Maine
The Maine Black Bears (8-11-2) have won three of their last four games coming into this weekend. Maine is currently in 7th place in the Hockey East standings with a 4-5-2 conference record. The Black Bears are coached by Molly Engstrom entering her 4th season. Maine was voted to finish in seventh place in the Hockey East Preseason Coaches' Poll. This season, the Black Bears have been led by a trio of freshmen in Lulu Rucinski, Isabelle Michaud, and Paige Fong who have accounted for 10 of Maine's 42 goals this season.
Series History
Last season, UConn won the regular season series against Maine, going 2-0-1. The Huskies have won three out of the last four regular seasons series against the Black Bears dating back to the 2021-22 season. UConn leads the all-time series 44-20-10.
