Huskies Head to Liberty This Weekend

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team (3-11) travels to Liberty University this weekend for the Liberty Invitational. The Huskies will open the weekend slate on Friday, February 27 with a doubleheader against Marshall beginning at 10:30am. In addition to Marshall, UConn will face Radford twice and the host school Liberty.
UConn comes into their final pre-season tournament at 3-11 overall this season. Sophomore infielder Cat Petteys has led the Huskies offense this season in batting average (.378), hits (17), doubles (5), home runs (2), RBI (9), and runs scored (8).
Grad Jessica Walter has led the Huskies pitching staff this season. In ten appearances, Walter has posted 24 strikeouts in 31.0 innings pitched, logging a staff high two wins this season. Walter has made an appearance in four out of UConn's last five games.

Marshall (9-8): 2025 Schedule | 2025 Roster
The Marshall Herd enter the weekend winners in four of their last five games. The Herd are coached by Morgan Zerkle entering her third season. This season, Marshall has been led by sophomore Sydni Burko. The Huskies and Herd have already met once this season back on February 6, Marshall was victorious, 10-1. This will be the fifth all-time meeting between the two programs. The series is knotted at 2-2. UConn will play a doubleheader against Marshall on Friday, February 27 beginning at 10:30am with the second game to follow after the conclusion of game one.
Liberty (5-9): 2025 Schedule | 2025 Roster
The Liberty Flames opened the 2026 season with a tough schedule, facing five top 25 opponents across their first nine games. The Flames come into the weekend having won four of their last five games. Liberty is coached by Dot Richardson entering her 13th season. The Flames have been led by catcher duo, Savannah Jessee, and Alexia Carrasquillo this season. UConn is 0-1 all-time against Liberty. The Huskies will square off against the Flames on Saturday, February 28 at 3:00pm.
Radford (2-8): 2025 Schedule | 2025 Roster
The Radford Highlanders enter the weekend on an eight-game skid. The Highlanders are coached by Kevin Fagan entering his second season. This season, Radford has been led by redshirt-junior Grace Hogie. UConn is 1-2 all-time against Radford. The Huskies will face the Highlanders on Saturday, February 28 at 5:00pm and on Sunday, March 1 at 11:00am.
