O'Brien Lifts Huskies to Overtime Victory

STORRS, Conn.- Sophomore attacker Megan O'Brien scored on the free position with 1:53 left in overtime to lift UConn women's lacrosse (2-3) to a 12-11 win over the University at Albany Great Danes (3-2) at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened:
The Huskies got off to a roaring start in the first quarter, finding the back of the net five times. O'Brien led a balanced scoring attack for the hosts, scoring two goals to put UConn ahead 2-1. Ava Plata, Kelsey Neary and Rayea Davis all chipped in a goal apiece to extend the lead to 5-1.
Anna Magennis converted on a feed from Hadley Bethke to open the scoring for the Huskies in the second. After UAlbany scored to cut the UConn lead to 6-3, Plata and Davis each scored their second of the afternoon, as the hosts took a 8-3 lead into the halftime break.
Davis tallied her third of the afternoon three minutes into the second half to keep the UConn advantage at 9-4. UAlbany's Ravan Marsell scored two quick goals to close the gap to 9-6. O'Brien and Karsyn Burnash provided goals, reextending the UConn lead to 11-6 heading to the fourth.
UAlbany flipped the switch in the fourth quarter, scoring five unanswered goals, tying the game with thirty seconds left to send the game to overtime.
In the extra frame, the UConn defense held strong, turning the Great Danes over to regain possession. On the free position, O'Brien fired in the game-winning goal to lift the Huskies to their second win of the season.
