No. 1 UConn to Face Georgetown in BIG EAST Tournament Quarterfinals

STORRS, Conn. – The top-ranked and top-seeded UConn women's basketball team (31-0, 20-0 BIG EAST) takes on No. 8-seed Georgetown (14-16, 6-14) in the 2026 BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinals Saturday at noon in Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The game will air on peacock/NBC Sports Network and the UConn Sports Network from Learfield (FOX Sports 97.9).
The Huskies won the 2025-26 BIG EAST regular season championship and are the No. 1 seed in this weekend's BIG EAST Tournament. The Huskies are seeking their 31st conference tournament title and 24th as members of the BIG EAST. UConn has won 12 consecutive conference tournament championships.
UConn won numerous end-of-season BIG EAST honors. Sophomore Sarah Strong was named the conference's Player and Defensive Player of the Year while Blanca Quiñonez was tabbed Freshman and Sixth Woman of the Year. Strong is joined on the All-BIG EAST First Team by graduate student Azzi Fudd and junior KK Arnold, and Strong and Arnold are on the All-Defensive Team.
Quiñonez is on the All-BIG EAST Second Team and All-Freshman Team and junior Ashlynn Shade earned All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention honors.
The Huskies closed the regular season with an 85-49 win over St. John's at Madison Square Garden last Sunday. Graduate student Azzi Fudd led four Huskies with double digit points with 14. Sophomore Sarah Strong had 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists and six steals vs. the Red Storm.
UConn finished the regular season undefeated for the 11th time in program history.
During Saturday's game, the BIG EAST will honor alumna Peggy Myers '86 as part of the BIG EAST Basketball Legends program.
UConn is 59-6 all-time vs. Georgetown. The Huskies have won the last 42 meetings between the teams.
The teams last met on Feb. 26 in Hartford, an 84-52 win for UConn. Fudd led the Huskies with 24 points in the game. Fudd's mother Katie played at Georgetown from 1998-01.
No. 8-seed Georgetown beat No. 9-seed Butler, 62-58, on Friday. This season, Khia Miller leads the Hoyas with 9.2 points per game. Darnell Haney is in his second season as head coach at Georgetown.
