NORFOLK, Va. - The UConn baseball team (7-8) lost 6-5 to Old Dominion (8-6) in the series finale on Sunday afternoon.

UConn got off to a good start with a two-run home run from Chris Polemeni in the top of the first. It was the first home run for Polemeni as a Husky.

Old Dominion responded to the Huskies by scoring in four of its first five at bats to take a 6-3 lead. The Monarchs hit three home runs including a three-run shot for Maverick Stallings.

The Huskies trailed 4-3 with runners at second and third and two outs in the fourth but a strikeout to Polemeni ended the threat.

Rob Gilchrist (0.2), JT Caruso (0.1), Sean Finn (1.0) and Austin Trumpour (1.0) combined to throw three shutout innings to keep the Huskies within striking distance at 6-3.

In the eighth, the Huskies drew closer with back-to-back RBI singles for Gaby Tirado and Cam Righi. With runners at second and third and one out, trailing 6-5, Chase Taylor laid down a bunt that would have tied the game but rolled just foul. Taylor eventually struck out and Rob Rispoli nearly sent a go-ahead single into right field but the second baseman Maverick Stallings made the grab to end the threat.

In the ninth, Jackson Marshall singled with two outs to bring Maddix Dalena to the plate, representing the go-ahead run. Peyton Jemison pinch ran and was picked off to end the game.

UConn returns to the field on Tuesday, March 10 against Boston College at 3:05 p.m. at Elliot Ballpark.
