STORRS, CT – The UConn men's golf team returns to action this week taking part in the Surf Club Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, March 9-10.
The Huskies will play rounds one and two on Monday and conclude the event on Tuesday with the final round at the Surf Golf and Beach Club in North Myrtle Beach, FL. UConn is part of a 19 team field that includes host App State and BIG EAST member Butler along with West Georgia, North Carolina A&T, Georgia State, Purdue Fort Wayne, Iona, Longwood, North Carolina Central, Northern Kentucky, UMES, Radford, Augusta, Rhode Island, Queens University of Charlotte, and Coastal Carolina.
UConn finished third at last year's weathered shortened event and took home the team title at the 2024 Surf Club Invite. Senior Connor Goode (Glastonbury, CT) earned a top-20 finish at the event by tying for 13th on the leader board. Junior Bradley Swaka (Ellington, CT) was just outside the top-20 in 21st.
The duo will lead the UConn lineup into the Huskies third event of the spring season. They will be joined by sophomores Caden Blanchette (Manchester, PA), Matt Costello (Taunton, MA) and Kai-Jun Huang (Taipei, Taiwan) with freshman Brennan Korn (Scottsdale, AZ) playing as an independent.
The Huskies are coming off an appearance at the Watersound Invitational in Panama City Beach, FL, a tournament that featured six nationally ranked programs. The Huskies posted a team score of 850 (287-281-282), their second lowest team total of the season.
Sawka and Goode led the Huskies at the event, each posting a pair of rounds at or under par to raise their team-best total to 12 rounds this season at par or better. Sawka leads the team with a 70.8 per round average over 21 rounds while Goode holds a 71.3 average.
Following this week's Surf Club Invite the Huskies will head out west in two weeks to play in the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational at Silverado Resort in Napa, CA on March 23 and 24.
