STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team had their 11-game win streak snapped on Friday night, falling to the Providence Friars, 7-6 at Burrill Family Field. The Huskies move to 12-4 in BIG EAST play and 21-23 overall this season.

Freshman Caprice Bohmer made her 19^th start of the season in the series opener for the Huskies. Bohmer went 5.1 innings giving up six runs on nine hits, adding three strikeouts.

Providence jumped out to an early lead on a pair of home runs in the first two innings. The Friars hit a two-run shot in the 1^st inning and a three-run homer in the 2^nd inning, putting the Huskies down 5-0 early on.

Bohmer settled in after the first two innings, holding the Friars scoreless for the next three innings.

UConn began to chip away at the Providence lead, as Kaitlyn Kibling worked a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 2^nd inning, making it 5-1.

In the bottom of the 5^th inning, Emma Willers delivered a clutch two-out single to center field, scoring Cat Petteys to close the gap at 5-2.

Providence responded in the top of the 6^th inning with a run, making it a four-run deficit for the Huskies once again, 6-2.

Sophomore Amber Bretton came on in relief for Bohmer during the 6^th inning, making her 14^th appearance of the season.Bretton went on to pitch the rest of the game in the circle for the Huskies going 1.2 innings, giving up one run on three hits with a pair of strikeouts.

UConn continued to battle back as Cat Petteys crushed her team-leading 15^th home run of the season, a three-run shot to center field, making it a one-run ballgame at 6-5.

Providence once again had an answer, scoring a key insurance run in the top of the 7^th inning to make it 7-5.

The Huskies did not go down quietly in the bottom of the 7^th inning as the two leadoff hitters, Ava Calciano, and Willersworked walks, putting the tying run on base. Down to the final strike, Kibling made it a one-run game with a single down the right field line, scoring Calciano from second base and moving the potential tying run to third base. Despite the late rally attempt, the Huskies could not find a key hit to bring home the tying run, snapping UConn's 11-game win streak.

News and Notes

Kaitlyn Kibling has reached base safely in 12 consecutive games. She reached base in all of her five plate appearances, recording her fourth multi-hit and fifth multi-RBI game this season.
Cat Petteys hit her team-leading 15^th home run of the season, recording her 10^th multi-RBI game this year.
Kaitlyn Breslin has recorded a hit in six straight games.
UConn worked a season high ten walks.
UConn's offense was held hitless through the first four innings.
The Huskies left 11 runners on base, tying their season high.
UConn turned their 11^th double play of the season.
UConn's defense did not commit an error for the 20^th time this season.
This is the Huskies first loss at home this season.
