Huskies Welcome Providence to Storrs This Weekend

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team (21-22) is set to host the Providence Friars at Burrill Family Field for a three-game series this weekend in Storrs. The series will begin on Friday, April 17 at 7:00pm. Game two is set for Saturday, April 18 at 2:00pm. The series finale will be at 1:00pm on Sunday, April 18. All games will be streamed on ESPN+.
UConn currently has the longest active winning streak across the NCAA, winning their last 11 straight games. UConn has earned sweeps in their last three consecutive BIG EAST series, putting the Huskies in first place in the conference standings with a 12-3 record. FULL STANDINGS
During this 11-game win streak, UConn has outscored their opponents, 79-22, slugging 16 home runs, and hitting .317 collectively as a team. Four Huskies are hitting over .300 during this stretch, Savannah Ring (.513), Kaitlyn Breslin (.483), Cat Petteys (.387), and Ava Calciano (.333). Ring, Petteys, and Breslin are all hitting above .300 on the year.
The Huskies pitching staff have been outstanding during this 11-game stretch, posting a collective 1.97 era with 63 strikeouts and three shutouts. Jessica Walter and Caprice Bohmer have each appeared in eight of UConn's last eleven games, combining to pitch 51.1 of the team's 71.0 innings.
A Look at Providence
The Providence Friars (21-14) enter the weekend having won their last five consecutive games. Providence swept St. John's last weekend and are currently in second place in the BIG EAST standings with a 10-2 conference record. The Friars are coached by Kelsey Christensen in her third season. This season, Providence has been led by junior Cameron Dunn. Her .416 batting average this year ranks 5th in the BIG EAST.
Series History
UConn won last year's regular season series winning two out of three games. The Huskies defeated the Friars in the opening round of the 2025 BIG EAST Tournament en route to the program's eighth BIG EAST Championship. Under head coach Laura Valentino, UConn is 12-4 against Providence (since 2021). The Huskies lead the all-time series 73-26.
