Owen Caldwell begins his third season on the UConn football staff in 2025. Caldwell came to Storrs in June of 2023 and prior to last season was elevated to head football equipment manager.
Caldwell is responsible for the development and management of the UConn football equipment budget, overseeing all ordering, purchasing, issuance, and storage of all athletic equipment, footwear, and apparel. He is also responsible for properly fitting, maintaining, and repairing equipment according to manufacturer’s guidelines.
He oversees a team of sixteen student-managers and leads the advance team to oversee stadium and locker room gameday set up as well as assist with team hotel set up. He also collaborates with the football recruiting staff to facilitate recruiting events on campus.
During his first season with UConn as the assistant football equipment manager, Caldwell oversaw all day-to-day aspects of the football equipment room. He served as a liaison to multiple internal departments including operations, recruiting, creative content, sports medicine, and strength and conditioning. He also coordinated daily equipment staff practice assignments and collaborated weekly with the head equipment manager and the Director of Football Operations to develop gameday logistics.
Caldwell came to UConn after serving as a student equipment manager at the University of Georgia from 2020 through 2023. He earned his degree from Georgia in business administration and finance with a minor in sports management. He is A.E.M.A. certified by the Athletic Equipment Managers Association.
