Patrick Peterson joins the UConn track & field staff as an Assistant Coach/Operations Manager, as announced by Director of Cross Country and Track & Field, Greg Roy. Peterson’s responsibilities include recruiting all events and creating recruitment plans for future Huskies, assisting all track event, with a focus on long sprints and middle and long distances, creating training plans, strength plans, and structure for the student-athletes.
Peterson will also assist with the team’s CARA logs, scholarship breakdowns, travel plans, meet management, and budgeting for the team.
Before joining the UConn staff, Peterson spent three years from August of 2017 to July 2020 at the Atlanta Track Club, holding several positions including youth coach, high performance department, and professional track and field athlete. While with the Atlanta Track Club, he was responsible for social media uploads, photography, time management, and goal setting, on top of his time participating as an athlete. In his roles in the high performance department and as a youth coach, Peterson was given the tasks of event management, program management, coaching, and strategic planning.
As a youth coach with the Atlanta Track Club, he coached three middle school state titles and three region 4 USATF junior Olympic cross country titles. Peterson also coached one USATF all-American and has his USATF youth coach and safe sport certifications.
Peterson also served as a volunteer coach at Pace Academy in Atlanta as well at the Atlanta Track Club, before taking on his new roles. He works as a private coach as well.
A graduate of Iowa State University in May 2015, Peterson was a member of the track & field team, earning Big12 and All-American honors in 2015. He holds the school record in the distance medley relay. Prior to his time at Iowa State, Peterson was a member of the Sacred Heart University track & field team where he qualified for the NCAA championships in 2012 and 2013. He won and set a conference record in the 800 meter race in 2013. Peterson also holds numerous program records along with both conference and New England records from his time at Sacred Heart.
