STORRS, CONNECTICUT (March 23, 2001) -- University of Connecticut head football coach Randy Edsall has announced that the start of spring practice will commence on Friday, March 30.
"We want to give our practice fields a few extra days to dry out from the recent heavy rains and snow melt," said Edsall. "We were originally scheduled to begin spring drills on Monday (Mar. 26) but we’re going to delay our start until Friday afternoon (Mar. 30). We’ll probably go four consecutive days (Mar. 30-April 2) and then space out our remaining practice days over a three-week span."
College football programs are allowed 15 days of spring practice that must be completed within a 29-day period.
Edsall indicated that the annual UConn Football Blue-White Spring Scrimmage is still scheduled for Saturday, April 21.
UConn will be in its second season as a Division I-A football-playing institution in the fall of 2001. The Huskies will open the 2001 season on the road (September 1) at future BIG EAST Football Conference rival Virginia Tech.
