The UConn Huskies are home on Saturday afternoon to face the Syracuse Orange at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field. Kick-off is scheduled for 12:02 pm on CBS Sports Network.
Saturday's game is the 15th all-time meeting between UConn and Syracuse in a series that dates back to 2004 when both schools were a member of the BIG EAST Cofnerence.ย The Huskies and Orange will meet for the fourth time since the 2022 season and UConn is 4-2 against Syracuse at home in The Rent.ย The Orange come in having won six-straight over the Huskies. UConn's last win on the series came in 2011 at home. This is the first of two games this season against ACC opponents with an early November meeting against North Carolina scheduled.ย UConn has won two-straight over the conference and three of the last four against the league.
The Huskies are looking to rebound from a 24-21 loss on the road at Miami (OH) last weekend. UConn bolted out to a 14-0 first quarter lead but saw that evaporate with 21-straight RedHawk points. The Huskies tied the game up in the third quarter but a late fourth quarter Miami field goal and a failed two-minute drive sealed the Huskies fate.
UConn quarterback Kalieb Osborne found the endzone for a team-best fifth time this season as well and tossing a touchdown to give the junior signal caller 10 total touchdowns on the year. Cyncir Bowers ran for 48 yards on seven carries and had his third touchdown of the season.ย Wide receiver Javon Brown caught four balls and had his second touchdown of the season in the loss.ย Linebacker Hayden Pegg led the team in tackles of the second-straight game, making a career-high eight stops. Fellow linebacker K'Von Sherman recorded second sack of the season.
Last Meeting vs. Syracuse...
Sept. 6, 2025 -- Syracuse 27 - UConn 20 OT -- Syracuse, NY
The UConn Huskies lost an 27-20 overtime decision to the Syracuse Orange at the JMA Wireless Dome early last season. UConn quarterback Joe Fagnano completed 24 of 43 passes for 259 yards, while wideout Skyler Bell set a new career-high with 11 receptions totaling 105 yards. Eight of Bell's 11 catches came in the second half. On the ground, Mel Brown provided a spark with 72 rushing yards on five carries, including a touchdown. Cam Edwards carried it 21 times for 75 yards in the loss. Defensively, D'Mon Brinson had seven total tackles and an interception. Linebacker Oumar Diomande led the team with nine tackles including a sack. The Huskies built an early second half 17-6 lead but Syracuse quarterback Steve Angeli led a pair of fourth quarter scoring drives of 90 yards and 80 yards with just over seven minutes left to take a 20-17 lead.ย UConn move the ball down the field in the last 1:18 and got a Chris Freeman 41 yard field goal to knot the game back up at 20-20 and send it to overtime. In overtime, quarterback Angeli threw a 10-yard pass to Will Nixon, followed by a 7-yard completion to Johntay Cook II, setting up the decisive play. On third down, Angeli connected with Ross-Simmons for a 6-yard touchdown pass, giving SU a 27-20 lead after Woody's successful extra point. UConn's subsequent drive was thwarted by incomplete passes from Fagnano and a crucial pass breakup by Antoine Deslauriers on fourth down, sealing SU's win. Syracuse's offensive effort was spearheaded by Angeli, who completed 33 of 53 passes for 417 yards and two touchdowns, despite throwing one interception.
