Huskies Fall Short in Overtime

FAIRFAX, VA -- Pamela Lowie (Cortland, NY) of the University of Connecticut women's lacrosse team notched seven goals despite falling 9-8 in an overtime loss to George Mason University on Saturday afternoon in Fairfax, VA. UConn’s record drops to 1-3 on the early season, while George Mason improves to 4-1.
The game was tied 4-4 midway through the first half, but George Mason took the two goal edge going into half time with the 6-4 lead. UConn’s Kristen Williams (Levittown, NY) opened the second half scoring just over a minute in followed by two Lowie goals giving Connecticut the 7-6 lead with 24:49 remaining.
The Huskies then held the 8-7 edge and the ball with less than two minutes to go in regulation. After turning over the ball and causing a foul. Patriot Katie Keegan converted the goal with 47 second remaining sending the game into overtime. Jill Toomey then scored the game-winner 1:18 into the overtime for the victory.
In addition to Lowie’s seven goals, she also added an assist on the Huskies only other goal of the game scored by Williams. Lowie surpassed her own reocrd of six goals scored in a game with today’s seven scores.
Sophomore April Pollock (North Syracuse, NY) made 13 saves in goal for the Huskies, while Jamie Tiburzi recorded 10 saves in net for George Mason.
Connecticut will host Holy Cross on Tuesday, March 27 at 4:00 p.m. at the Storrs campus.
