Notre Dame Defeats Women's Lacrosse, 19-5

Notre Dame, IN -- The University of Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team dealt the University of Connecticut women’s lacrosse team a 19-5 defeat on Sunday afternoon at Moose Krause Stadium in Notre Dame, IN. UConn’s record falls to 1-6 overall, 0-2 in the Big East, while Notre Dame improves to 7-2 overall, 3-0 in conference action.
Notre Dame got on the board at the 27:13 mark when Alissa Moser found the back of the net. Less than three minutes later, the Huskies countered on a Susan Payne (Penn Yan, NY) goal. The Fighting Irish then took a five goal advantage led by Danielle Shearer’s hat trick. Abby Morgan (West Chester, PA) scored the first of her two goals at the 12:54 mark to bring Connecticut within four goals but the Irish matched that margin with four consecutive tallies before intermission. Sophomore Heather Bliss (Tully, NY) added another goal for the Huskies just before the half.
The Irish opened the second stanza with nine unanswered goals. Notre Dame’s Lael O’Shaughnessy scored two in the span. UConn scored the final two goals of the game. Bliss scored on a free position shot with 5:10 remaining in the contest. She then assisted on Morgan’s second goal with under a minute to go in the contest.
UConn’s April Pollock (North Syracuse, NY) made seven saves in net while ND’s Tara Durkin made 12 stops.
UConn will host Boston College on Tuesday, April 10 at Morrone Stadium in Storrs, CT. The game is scheduled for a 7p.m. start.
