Huskies Downed by Yale, 12-8

NEW HAVEN, CT (March 13) – Despite keeping even with Yale in the second half, the University of Connecticut lacrosse team allowed the Bulldogs to score four more goals in the first half than the Huskies did, and fell Wednesday afternoon by a score of 12-8.
With the loss, UConn moves to 2-2 on the season.
The Huskies were led by junior Susan Payne (Penn Yan, NY) who tallied two goals, and six other players contributed a goal apiece. Junior Bonnie Wehinger (North Syracuse, NY), who scored one of the goals, also had an assist, along with fellow junior Heather Bliss (Tully, NY).
The Bulldogs were paced by three different players who each tallied three goals. Sophie Melinker, Katie Sargent and Clarissa Clarke each had three goals apiece, and Melinker also added an assist to her total for the day. Sarah Queener led Yale in assists for the day with two.
Two UConn goalies defended throughout the game. Starter April Pollock (North Syracuse, NY) allowed 10 goals while tallying seven saves, and freshman Jen Wong (Greenwood Village, CO) has four saves while allowing the Bulldog’s final two goals.
UConn returns to action at 1 p.m., this weekend, March 17, as they take on Vanderbilt in a road contest.
