Huskies Upset No. 15 Vanderbilt

ORLANDO, FL (March 22) – The University of Connecticut women’s lacrosse team completed its spring break trip with a 15-12 upset over No. 15 national-ranked Vanderbilt University on Saturday afternoon in Orlando, Fla. UConn improved its record to 3-1 on the early season, while Vanderbilt fell to 2-3 overall.
Behind a whole team effort, the Huskies dominated the scoring offense from the start, outscoring the Commodores, 9-5 in the first half of play. Tracy Mullaney (Cockeysville, MD) scored two of her three goals in the first half, and added another in the latter part of the game, plus giving out three assists. She had a strong game on all points, collecting five ground balls, causing three turnovers and adding two draw controls. Jacqui Hamilton (Hopkinton, MA) also notched a hat trick in the Huskies win, scoring two goals in the transition part of the second half to stabilize UConn’s lead.
April Pollock (North Syracuse, NY) earned the start in net making eight saves, allowing seven goals against. Jennifer Wong (Greenwood Village, CO) played the last 32-minutes of the game, recording five saves, allowing five goals against.
Michelle Allen notched four goals in the Commodore loss, while Mary McCeney and Lauren Peck each netted a hat trick.
Connecticut will play host to Quinnipiac University on Wednesday, March 26 at 3:00 pm on the Storrs campus. The game was rescheduled from March 2.
