Mullaney and Byrnes Earn BIG EAST Weekly Honors

STORRS, CT (March 24) – Sophomore Tracy Mullaney (Cockeysville, MD) and junior Jaime Byrnes (Chadds Ford, PA) were selected as BIG EAST Players of the Week by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Mullaney share the Offensive Player of the Week honors with Syracuse’s Leigh-Ann Zimmer. Mullaney scored seven goals in the Huskies two wins last week. Against Lafayette, she tallied four goals in a 15-1 win. In Connecticut’s upset over No. 15 Vanderbilt, Mullaney recorded five points (3g, 2a), five ground balls, two draw controls and three caused turnovers. She currently leads the team in scoring with 10 goals and three assists.
Byrnes helped the Huskies to a 2-0 record last week. UConn defeated Lafayette 15-1 for its first win where Byrnes picked up two ground balls, a draw control and caused three turnovers. In Connecticut’s biggest win in program history, a 15-12 victory over No. 15 Vanderbilt, she tallied five ground balls and caused three turnovers.
Connecticut will play host to Quinnipiac on Wednesday, March 26 in a make up game at 3 pm at the Sherman-Family Sports Complex.
