Huskies Overpower Fairfield on Chilly Night

STORRS, CT (April 23) – The University of Connecticut women’s lacrosse team scored 14 first-half goals en route to a 18-6 win over instate rival Fairfield University on a cold Wednesday night at Morrone Stadium in Storrs. The Huskies jump above the .500 mark to 7-6 overall, while the Stags fall to 6-8 on the season.
UConn took a commanding 14-1 lead in the first half of play over Fairfield. The Huskies scored six goals in a 12-minute time span. Tracy Mullaney (Cockeysville, MD) and Heather Levins (East Northport, NY) each notched two tallies, while Jacqui Hamilton (Hopkinton, MA) and Dana Stewart (Havertown, MA) each scored one. Fairfield’s lone goal of the half came on a shot from Megan Main at the 14:19 mark. UConn then went on to score the last eight goals of the half. Heather Bliss (Tully, NY) started the scoring spree at the 12:39 on a goal from in front of the net. Allison Tyminski (Kirkville, NY), followed by Kariane Lauri (Memphis, NY) and Stewart brought the score to 10-1 at the 10-minute mark of the half. Mullaney then added her third goal of the game, and Anna Konyukhov (Avon, CT) scored her first for the Huskies. Lauri ended the half’s scoring on two quick goals for a halftime score of 14-1.
Hamilton opened the second half 4:10 in, followed by Lauri’s fourth goal of the night minutes later. Fairfield scored the five straight goals bringing the score as close as 16-6. Beth Loffredo scored three and Kathleen Dillon and Main each scored one goal for the Stags. Tammy Michel (Baldwinsville, NY) and Bliss ended the night’s scoring under the 40-second mark left in regulation.
April Pollock (North Syracuse, NY) earned the start and win for the Huskies making one save and allowing one goal. Jennifer Wong (Greenwood Village, CO) and Kristen Haldeman (Malvern, PA) split the second half making a combined one save and allowed five goals.
UConn will travel to Georgetown University on Sunday, April 27 at 1:00 pm in Washington, DC.
