Huskies Dropped by No. 15 Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, IN (April 5) – The University of Connecticut women’s lacrosse team dropped a 15-7 BIG EAST Conference decision to No. 15 nationally ranked Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon in South Bend, Ind. The Huskies fall to 5-3 overall, and winless at 0-2 in the conference, while the Fighting Irish improve to an even 4-4 overall, 3-1 in the BIG EAST.
Notre Dame came out to score seven goals to UConn’s one in the first half of play. The Huskies lone goal was scored by Kariane Lauri (Memphis, NY) on a free position shot.
The Huskies picked up its tempo in the second half, notching six goals, all from different players, including Heather Levins (East Northport, NY), Jacqui Hamilton (Hopkinton, MA), Heather Bliss (Tully, NY), Tracy Mullaney (Cockeysville, NY), Heather McHugh (Bel Air, MD) and Tanya Kotowicz (Hicksville, NY). For every goal UConn tallied, the Irish match it scoring eight in the second half, to take the 15-7 victory.
Overall for Notre Dame, Danielle Shearer notched one goal and four assists, Meredith Simon and Chrysti Foote each added three scores and Eleanor Weille aided on four goals.
Connecticut’s April Pollock (North Syracuse, NY) started in net allowing six goals on three saves, while Jennifer Wong (Greenwood Village, CO) took over late in the first half stopping seven shots and allowing nine goals.
Connecticut will face Northwestern University on Sunday in Chicago at 1:00 pm.
