Huskies Fall at Northwestern

EVANSTON, IL (April 6) – The University of Connecticut women’s lacrosse team fell to Northwestern University, 8-6, on Sunday afternoon in Evanston, IL. The Huskies drop to 5-4 overall, while Northwestern snaps a three game slide improving to 6-3 overall.
The Huskies and Wildcats were closely matched through out the game, but Northwestern held the edge at the end of each half. UConn tallied free position goals by Heather Levins (East Northport, NY) and Tracy Mullaney (Cockeysville, MD), plus a score from Kariane Lauri (Memphis, NY) to hold Connecticut to a one-goal deficit at halftime. Northwestern’s Lindsey Munday scored the first two Wildcat goals in the first stanza, while Courtney Flynn and Ashley Gersuk each added one.
In the second half, the Huskies could not edge ahead despite two goals from Mullaney and another from Levins. Munday also added another tally in the half for Northwestern.
April Pollock (North Syracuse, NY) played the majority of minutes between the pipes for UConn, allowing eight goals and making eight saves. Northwestern barley edged UConn in shots on goal with a 21-18 differential, but despite the win the Wildcats turned the ball over 18 times, while the Huskies contained its to only eight.
Connecticut will play host to Boston College in a BIG EAST match-up on Wednesday, April 9 at 7:00 pm on the Storrs campus.
