Huskies Take Win Over Boston University

STORRS, CT (April 21) – Tracy Mullaney (Cockeysville, NY) led the University of Connecticut women’s lacrosse team to a 12-8 victory over New England Region rival Boston University at Morrone Stadium in Storrs on Wednesday night.
The Huskies have now won three straight games and improve to an overall record of 7-8, while the Terriers drop to 5-8 on the season.
Connecticut jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first 21-minutes of play before the Terriers’ Lindsay Lewis scored two goals to bring the score within one (3-2) with just under eight-minutes remaining in the half. Mullaney capped off the half’s scoring with her second goal of the night at the 24:28 mark giving UConn the 4-2 halftime advantage.
In the second half, the teams traded goals but UConn never allowed BU to take the lead, but allowing the Terriers to come within three goals midway through the stanza. Kariane Lauri (Memphis, NY) led the Husky charge scoring all four of her goals, along with Jacqui Hamilton’s (Hopkinton, MA) two tallies.
Mullaney led the way scoring three goals and adding two assists, while Lauri notched four goals of her own. Lewis and Kaitlyn Cuneo each tallied two goals for the Terriers.
Connecticut barley edged Boston University in shots by a 33-29 margin, but collected 29 ground balls to BU’s 21 on the night.
UConn’s Jennifer Wong (Greenwood Village, CO) recorded 14 saves in net, including 10 in the second half of play. Boston’s Anne Sheridan stopped 14 UConn shots on goal.
The Huskies will play host to BIG EAST opponent Georgetown on Saturday, April 24 at Morrone Stadium in Storrs. Game time is set for 12 noon and the team’s five seniors will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
