Mullaney and MacDougall Receive Regional Honors

ITHACA, NY (May 27) – Tracy Mullaney (Cockeysville, NY) and Melissa MacDougall (Baldwinsville, NY) of the University of Connecticut women’s lacrosse team were named to the Division I Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) 2004 North All-Region Teams on Thursday afternoon announced by Cornell University head coach Jenny Graap, chair of the IWLCA Division I North Region committee. Mullaney was a first team selection, while MacDougall earned second team honors.
An attacking midfielder, Mullaney led the team in scoring for the third straight season in 2004 and was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team. She ended the season with 41 goals and 54 points, while adding 13 assists. Mullaney was held scoreless in only one game this season, and four times in her three-year UConn career. Mullaney was third in the BIG EAST in overall and conference games, with 54 and 22 points respectively. This is the third consecutive season Mullaney has been named to the All-BIG EAST Team, second straight as a First Team performer.
MacDougall, a defensive midfielder, was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team for the first time in her career. Scoring two goals and one assist, MacDougall led the team in ground balls with 42, draw controls with 36 and caused turnovers with 28 on the season. MacDougall was third in the conference in overall games in caused turnovers and draw controls.
Student-Athletes selected to the North All-Region team are now eligible for national All-American honors. Thirty-two players were also selected Thursday to each of the other two regions- South and Mid-Atlantic.
The Huskies ended the season with an overall record of 8-9 and stood at 2-4 in the BIG EAST Conference, good for fifth in the final 2004 standings. As a team, the Huskies ranked eighth in the nation in caused turnovers per game averaging 10.88 over 17 games.
