STORRS, CT (Feb. 16) – University of Connecticut senior attack Tracy Mullaney (Cockeysville, Md.) was named to the women’s lacrosse preseason All-America third team by Inside Lacrosse magazine.
A unanimous preseason All-BIG EAST pick, Mullaney led the Huskies in 2004 with 41 goals and 13 assists for 54 points while starting all 17 games. She was one of just five Huskies to start every contest. Mullaney’s 54 points in 2004 tied the school record set in 2000 by Pamela Lowie, while her 41 goals last spring was the third best seasonal total in Husky history. Mullaney is the leading returning scorer in the BIG EAST Conference for the 2005 season as her 54 points edges out the 52 tallied in 2004 by Georgetown’s Sarah Oliphant, also named a preseason All-American. Mullaney enters her senior year third in UConn history with 137 points, placing just 36 shy of tying Lowie’s school record sum of 173 set from 1999 from 2002.
Should she play up to this level and earn All-America honors following the season, Mullaney would join Lowie (2002) as the lone Huskies to ever be so honored.
UConn will open its 2005 season on March 4 at Stanford.
