Brittany Wilson Named Hockey East Rookie of the Month

WAKEFIELD, Mass. (February 2, 2006) - University of Connecticut women's hockey freshman Brittany Wilson (Nepean, Ontario) was named ITECH Rookie of the Month by the Hockey East Associational on Wednesday following a set of phenomenal performances throughout the month of January. Earlier in the week, Wilson had been honored as the leagues Defensive Player of the Week.
Wilson made her second career start on January 8 in the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum, a 19 save, 8-0 shutout of Niagara. It was the first victory of her collegiate career and her first career shutout. She was at it again the next weekend, stopping 30 shots while giving up just one goal in UConn's 1-1 tie at Dartmouth on Jan. 14.
To close out the month, Wilson made her first back-to-back starts in the Huskies final series of the season against league rival Northeastern. On Jan. 28, the rookie made 28 saves while earning the 3-2 victory in Boston before returning home the next day to close out the series. Wilson stopped 29 shots and gave up one goal as the Huskies rolled over Northeastern, 10-1, to close out January.
For the month, the freshman averaged 26.5 saves per game while giving up four goals. She had a 0.98 goals against average and a .964 saves percentage in January and has a 1.75 goals against average for the season as well as a .933 saves percentage.
The Huskies will be in action next on Saturday, Feb. 4 when they host Maine in the Mark Eward Freitas Ice Forum. The puck is set to drop at 2:00 p.m.
