STORRS, Conn. (January 29, 2007) – University of Connecticut women’s hockey freshman forward Dominique Thibault (L’Orignal, Ont.) has been named the Hockey East Association’s Rookie of the Week.
Thibault netted a pair of goals, including the game-winner, in UConn’s 4-1 win over Northeastern on Saturday, Jan. 27. She also added an assist on UConn’s first goal of the day for a three-point afternoon that accompanied a +3 rating in the contest. The effort gives Thibault 12 goals and nine assists on the year for 21 points in 24 games played. The 12 goals already tie for fifth-best in UConn history for a single-season with at least eight games left to play this season. Thibault’s 21 points and +8 rating are both second on UConn this year. She has been particularly impressive at home at the Freitas Ice Forum as 20 of her 21 points this year have been tallied in Storrs.
Thibault is UConn’s second league Rookie of the Week recipient this season. Defenseman Cristin Allen (Pickering, Ont.) earned the honor on Oct. 16. The Huskies have enjoyed one of the finest seasons in school history and that has been reflected in the Hockey East weekly honors. Junior Jaclyn Hawkins (Manotick, Ont.) was named the league Player of the Week on Oct. 23 and its Player of the Month for November. Defenseman Natalie Vibert (Thunder Bay, Ont.) was Player of the Week on Nov. 13 and goaltender Brittany Wilson (Nepean, Ont.) was the league’s Player of the Week on Jan. 22 and its Defensive Player of the Week three times (Oct. 30, Dec. 4 and Dec. 11).
The Huskies (14-10-2, 9-4-1 Hockey East) return to action this weekend when they travel north for a pair of games at Maine (7-15-2, 2-10-2 HE) on Saturday and Sunday at noon.
