STORRS, Conn. - Freshman Rebecca Hewett (Oak Bluff, Man./APHA Rangers) of the University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team is among 47 players selected to Team Canada's Under-22 Conditioning Camp Roster.
Hewett is among 14 defenseman reporting to Norma Bush Arena in Calgary, Alberta from April 30 to May 3 for the strength and conditioning/skating camp. The camp marks the commencement of the 2009-10 season for Team Canada. The roster includes 12 players from the 2009 MLP Cup silver medal-winning club as well as 10 players from the U-18 team that took silver at the 2009 IIHF World Championship.
The four-day camp includes fitness testing and skating drills for all participants as well as off-ice training techniques and nutritional guidance. Hockey Canada will use the camp as a means of making selections for the August U-22 camp and eventually the final selections for the National Women's U-22 Team for the 2009-10 season.
In her first season with the Huskies, Hewett was a consistent presence along the blue line, playing in every game. She scored twice and added 12 assists for 14 points in her rookie campaign. Hewett finished the year with a plus-eight rating.
