Huskies Fall At RIT, 6-2

Storrs, Conn. - The UConn Huskies traveled to Rochester, N.Y. and fell to AHA foe RIT, 6-2. With the loss, UConn sees its overall record fall to 2-2-3 (2-1-1 AHA) while RIT improves to 3-5-1 (2-1-0 AHA). RIT's Tyler Brenner netted a hat-trick to lead the Tigers. UConn's Alex Gerke (Tomah, Wisc.) and James Gallagher (Marquette, Mich.) scored in defeat.
The Huskies fell behind on an RIT power-play goal at 2:52 from Chris Haltigin with assists going to Andrew Favot and Ben Lynch.
UConn responded just 59 seconds later with a power-play goal of its own. Gerke buried his second goal of the season after passes from Sean Ambrosie (Moorhead, Minn.) and freshman Cole Schneider (Williamsville, N.Y.). Ambrosie and Schneider each earned their fourth helpers of the year on the play.
RIT took the lead again, 2-1, with another power-play goal from Adam Mitchell with the assist going to Adam Hartley.
After one period RIT held a 13-11 edge in shots.
RIT added a pair of goals late in the middle stanza to make it 4-1. Scott Knowles made it 3-1 at 1716 before Tyler Brenner made it 4-1 at 18:58.
Gallagher would cut the lead to 4-2 in the third period, but Brenner would go on to net two more to complete the hat-trick.
UConn goaltender Garrett Bartus (St. Charles, Ill.) denied 35 shots in the losing effort.
The two teams will finish the season series tomorrow night with a 7:05 p.m. contest at Ritter Arena.
