STORRS, Conn. - No. 7 University of Connecticut women's ice hockey junior forward Jennifer Chaisson (Cumberland, Ont.) was named the Hockey East's Gladiator Hockey Best Defensive Forward on Friday night. Chaisson received the honor at the Hockey East Championship Awards Banquet held in the Marquis Ballroom at the Providence Marriot. This is the first post season award for Chaisson from the conference since receiving a spot on the All-Rookie Team in 2006-07.
Her defensive efforts have been evidence as a consistent presence at center for the Huskies' second line. Chaisson boasts a +10 rating overall and was +7 in regular season Hockey East play. She leads the Huskies in power-play scoring in conference contests this season with six points (3G, 3A). Chaisson leads Connecticut in conference scoring overall with 17 points from seven goals and 10 assists.
In addition to three power-play goals in Hockey East action, Chaisson has been responsible for a shorthanded and a gamewinner throughout the season. She is third on the team in scoring overall with 10 goals to go along with 14 assists. The junior forward has scored four power play goals this season.
Chaisson and the No. 7 Huskies will take on No. 10 Providence on Saturday at noon. The game marks the fourth meeting between Connecticut and the top-seeded Friars in Hockey East Tournament history. It is the second-consecutive season that UConn and Providence have met in the conference tournament.
