Cristin Allen Receives Spot on New England All-Star Team

STORRS, Conn. - Senior Cristin Allen (Pickering, Ont.), of the No. 9 University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team, has been named to the 2010 New England Writers' All-Star Team announced on Friday. This is the second-consecutive season that Allen has been one of the four defensemen honored and it is the sixth-straight season that at least one member of the Huskies have been named. Allen is the first UConn player to receive the honor twice in her career.
The award is the second major award for Allen this season who was named the Hockey East's Inaugural Best Defenseman prior to Connecticut's conference championship game appearance. She earned Hockey East First-Team Honors as well after pulling in second-team honors following the 2008-09 season.
A two-time Patty Kazmeier nominee, Allen led the team in assists for the second-consecutive season, totaling 21 as a senior. She will graduate in the Connecticut record books as second on the all-time assist list with 54 and fifth in overall scoring, totaling 64 points in 139 games played.
Allen concluded the year 12th in points per game among defensemen, averaging 0.65 points. She was fourth on the Huskies in overall scoring with 24 points in her final season. An assistant captain for the 2009-10 squad that wrapped up the year with a 21-9-7 record, Allen was part of one of the most successful classes in UConn program history. Allen helped the Huskies to a 79-32-19 record throughout her four years.
One of four defensemen selected to the New England Writers' All-Star Team, Allen and her fellow honorees will be acknowledged on Tuesday, April 13 at the Prince Restaurant in Saugus, Mass. at 6 p.m. Coaches, student-athletes, family members and friends are encouraged to attend the banquet for the award presentation.
