Huskies Cruise Past Kentucky 3-0

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Tony Cascio scored his first goal of the season as the No. 7/8 University of Connecticut men's soccer team defeated Kentucky 3-0 on Friday night. It was the Huskies' first match of the Gamecock Classic at the University of South Carolina.
Cascio took a pass from senior Alan Ponce at the top of the 18-yard box and sent his first shot of the game into the back of the net to produce the eventual game winner.
Tonight's game marked the first-ever between the two soccer programs as the Huskies remain undefeated at 4-0-1 on the year while Kentucky drops to 2-2-1. UConn is one of four BIG EAST teams still unbeaten in 2010.
The Huskies outshot Kentucky 9-2 in the first half and finished the night with a 12-7 edge over the Wildcats.
Josh Ford picked up his fourth victory of the season with his 41st career shutout as he registered three saves on the night.
In the 32nd minute, Ponce found Cascio from about 25-yards out, who then placed the ball past a diving Kentucky goalkeeper and into the bottom left corner of the net to give UConn a 1-0 lead.
The Huskies' scored 3:07 later as Jossimar Sanchez drilled a shot from 30-yards out for his second goal of the season to put UConn ahead of Kentucky 2-0 in the 35th minute. Both Carlos Alvarez and Colin Bradley earned assists on the play.
Ford made one save in the first half as he grabbed a Kentucky header inside the goal box. He finished the night with three to improve his career tally to 225. Max Wasserman stole the ball from a defender and scored his first goal of the season at the 64-minute mark to extend UConn's scoring advantage to three. With the win, UConn improves to 16-12-5 all-time at neutral sites.
