STORRS, Conn. - University of Connecticut lacrosse junior M.E. Lapham (Cazenovia, N.Y.) added another award to her post-season honors today, as she was named to the IWLCA First Team All-Region. Lapham becomes just the fourth Husky to be recognized by the IWLCA, and the first since 2007 when Shannon Burke was named a Second Team All-American.
Earlier this month, Lapham was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team after leading the Huskies with 63 points on 55 goals and eight assists. Her 55 goals marked a UConn record for the most goals in a season, while her 63 points was the second best total in school history. At the end of the regular season, Lapham ranked seventh nationally with 3.44 goals per game and eighth with her 55 goals.
During the season, she extended her goal-scoring streak to 39 straight games and also improved her point-scoring streak to 40 consecutive contests. Lapham posted three or more goals during 12 contests this year and now has 25 games with three or more goals on her career, the most of any current Husky.
The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association selected 17 student-athletes for the Northeast Region First Team. Overall, 136 student-athletes were honored and are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on Monday, May 30.
