NEW YORK -- Two UConn women's lacrosse players were recognized by the Big East on Tuesday in the league's final set of weekly awards this season. Junior attacker Katherine Finkelston was tabbed the Attacker of the Week, while freshman standout Grace Nolan grabbed her fifth Rookie of the Week honors this year.
The pair of attackers combined for six goals and five assists in UConn's 14-11 victory over Villanova on Saturday. Finkelston led the way, as she tallied a season-high five goals to go along with two assists and a ground ball. She converted one of her two free position shots for the Huskies, who clinched the No. 3 seed in this week's Big East Tournament with the win over the Wildcats.
Finkelston ended the regular season as Connecticut's leader in points (52) and goals (36), and she ranked second on the team with 16 assists. Her 52 points in 2015 marked a career-high in a season for the Leonardtown, Md. native, and she was one of three UConn players to reach five goals in a game this year.
Nolan's three assists against Villanova matched a career-high for the Connecticut attacker. It marked the fifth time this season that she recorded multiple assists in a match, and she finished her freshman campaign in Storrs with a team-high 20 helpers.
The Marcellus, N.Y. native closed the regular season with Rookie of the Week awards in three of the final four weeks, and her five weekly awards were the most among Big East freshmen in 2015.
Nolan, Finkelston and the Huskies will be in action on Thursday (7 p.m.) against No. 2 seed Georgetown in the semifinals of the 2015 Big East Women's Lacrosse Tournament in Storrs. Check back on UConnHuskies.com later today for a full preview of the match.Ă‚Â
