PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Five goals from sophomore Grace Nolan (Marcellus, N.Y.) helped UConn remain undefeated 4-0 after a 14-11 win over Rutgers Saturday on the road at High Point Solutions Stadium.
UConn took an early 2-0 lead after seniors Katherine Finkelston (Leonardtown, Md.) and Alyson Fazio (Methuen, Mass.) netted back-to-back goals in the first two minutes, but the Scarlet Knights responded with four unanswered goals of their own to take a 4-2 lead less than 10 minutes in.
The Huskies retaliated with five unanswered goals, two from Nolan and one each for Finkelston, Fazio and sophomore Kelsey Catalano (Stony Brook, N.Y.). Fazio added one more goal off a free position shot to put the Huskies up 8-6 going into halftime.
UConn held a two-goal lead at the start of the second half, but Rutgers quickly cut the lead to one, making it 8-7 three minutes into the second half. Nolan stole the show in the second half, scoring three of UConn's six goals.
Finkelston and Fazio each added one more to their running tally. Fazio finished with four goals for the day and Finkelston three, bringing her season total to 17 goals. Senior Alexandra Crofts (Westport, Conn.) closed out the scoring for UConn, netting her first and only of the day with just over seven minutes to play.
Rutgers kept it close, scoring five goals in the second half, but senior goalkeeper Shannon Nee (Lancaster, Pa.) made 12 saves to keep the Huskies in it. This marks her third straight game with double-digit save totals.
